How to Create a Product, Service or Business

Everyone wants to do it – few make it happen. Here’s how you can succeed, no matter which goal you set. No one can make you do it, other than you just deciding to go for it.

Before we begin – check the applied principles used to get into the right mindset. Develop the intent to apply the principles successfully.

Off we go – first, identify the goal. Whether the goal is a product or a business; you must know who will consume or make use of what you create. As a creator its important to know your own role.

Whats your vision?

Do you envision yourself running a business or simply starting it, gathering a team and pulling it to a specific point where you can then exit comfortably while others manage it moving forward. Before you consider how to start think about how this thing will end. Your exit strategy is the most important consideration.

Alternatively, how will you license or sell the product? Consider who will buy or who might sell the product. Understand if your role will be to become a sales person or move on to the next product, idea, service, or business.

What’s Next?

Speak your project into existence. Write down your objectives. Break down how the product, service or business will work into a set of steps.

Daily Process

Develop your process after you understand the necessary tasks. These should include the when, where and how of what you do and any tasks or processes that others need to do to support your vision.

A useful idea is to develop timeblocks for specific tasks to be done within a set time, everyday. Accomplishing goals requires daily practice. Put your tasks into time blocks and perform them everyday.

To be successful, consider waking early and start working before others. Be willing to do what others won’t. Go to bed early in preparation for your early start.

Case Study

Here is an example of how I structure my daily activities as a business broker. I perform tasks at a specific time in a way that promotes sucessful operation of my business as an M&A specialist.

Focus Area: Specialty & Advanced Manufacturing

This is the sweet spot where my technical skills intersect with high buyer demand. Companies involved in automation, components, medical devices, or essential B2B industrial services (like specialty contractors, machine shops, or industrial maintenance) are the most active targets.

Here are my specific next steps for The Lab (my first block of work):

Phase 1: The Lab (Right Now – 6:45 AM PST)
  1. The Tech (Refined LinkedIn Search):
    • Go to LinkedIn Search.
    • Use this query: (Owner OR President) AND California AND ("Specialty Manufacturing" OR "Industrial Services" OR "Automation" OR "Precision Machining")
    • Filter: Set the Connections filter to 2nd (friends of friends).
    • Action: Find 10 people that meet this criteria, and note their company name and mutual connections (if any).
  2. The Visual (The Asset – Canva):
    • Create a simple, powerful visual asset that leverages your knowledge.
    • Headline Idea: “The Reshoring Dividend: Why CA Industrial Valuations are Up 15%.”
    • Body: A short list of the 3 key valuation drivers right now (e.g., Low reliance on China, High IP, High Automation levels). This is not selling a business, it is selling market intelligence that only an insider would have.

Phase 2: The Bridge (6:45 AM – 7:45 AM PST)

WeChat Warm-Up (Optional): Check the names of my 10 contacts against my WeChat network. If there is a match, send a quick, non-sales message there (e.g., “Just back from Shenzhen, and it made me think of your operation. Posting an update on CA valuations in a minute!”). This is the ultimate “warm-up” for the call.

HubSpot Integration: Log the 10 contacts into HubSpot. This is my first “calling queue.”

The Post: Post the “Reshoring Dividend” graphic/link to LinkedIn.

Focus & Repeat

Follow one course until successful. Then repeat the process with your next objective. Build objectives, tasks, and operations for yourself and others that are needed to achieve your goals. Then repeat the process until you reach the next objective and eventually the point of your exit strategy.

Understanding, intent, expression, daily action. Identifying something that is positive and useful while providing a good livelihood. Binding mindfulness about your physical, mental, and spiritual health along with due concentration on your goals are all exmplified by the approach above. See more on these applied principles and keep building and sharing.

Applied Principles

The Noble Eightfold Path is a fundamental element of Buddhism that outlines the practical steps to end suffering and achieve enlightenment. Here are the eight components:

  1. Right Understanding: Comprehending the nature of reality and the truths of suffering, its origins, cessation, and the path leading to its cessation.
  2. Right Intent: Cultivating wholesome intentions, which include commitment to ethical and mental self-improvement, and fostering thoughts of love, compassion, and non-attachment.
  3. Right Speech: Speaking truthfully, kindly, and helpfully. This involves avoiding lying, gossiping, or using speech that causes division.
  4. Right Action: Engaging in ethical conduct by refraining from harmful behaviors, such as killing, stealing, and sexual misconduct. It promotes kindness and respect towards others.
  5. Right Livelihood: Earning a living in a way that does not harm others and is consistent with the principles of Buddhism. This means avoiding professions that involve deceit, violence, or exploitation.
  6. Right Effort: Cultivating a strong will to develop wholesome states of mind and abandon unwholesome states. This includes perseverance in all aspects of practice.
  7. Right Mindfulness: Developing awareness of the body, feelings, mind, and mental phenomena. This involves maintaining focus and awareness in each moment to perceive reality as it is.
  8. Right Concentration: Practicing meditation with the aim of developing deeper states of focus and tranquility, culminating in profound levels of insight and enlightenment.

Each aspect of the Noble Eightfold Path supports and reinforces the others, creating a comprehensive approach to ethical and mental development that leads to liberation from suffering.
